Community Garden Plan

Moortown Community Group’s plan to create a community garden in the cul-de-sac of Allerton Grove between the Moortown parade shops is moving forward.

After a successful consultation in 2016, we are almost ready to transform the area by providing new paving, planters, seats, a community notice-board and an interpretation board.

The proposed plan for the garden is shown to the right.

Between St Gemma's hospice shop and the estate agents, we plan to create a community garden to replace the concrete bollards and double yellow lines that currently mark the end of Allerton Grove.

In the plan, an attractive paved area is contained by the planters along the edge of the shopping parade and the end of Allerton Grove. Benches are provided to enjoy the pleasant surroundings and take a rest from visiting the businesses along the parades. A community notice board and interpretation board bring further utility to the area and help it to become the heart of Moortown. A gently curving pathway brings pedestrians through the community garden, linking the pavement of Allerton Grove to the footway along the shopping parade.

Community Garden Plan

This is our most ambitious project to date and it will provide a place to meet and to rest, with flowers and shrubs to add colour and cheer to an otherwise drab corner of Moortown.

We have now secured the funding needed to progress the project. Once the garden is completed maintenance will be carried out by Moortown in Bloom. If you would like to help with the maintenance either by volunteering or donating towards the costs then please let us know. You can donate directly using the details on our Community Garden Fund page, or Contact Us for other ways to support the project.
